Registration starts up for Grid Kids Football

Sandpoint YMCA Grid Kids now forming 3rd-8th grade teams

SANDPOINT — Attention parents and caregivers of children entering the 3rd through 8th grade: It is time to start thinking about tackle football registration for the upcoming fall season, with Sandpoint YMCA Grid Kids Tackle Football Registration now open.

New for this year, Sandpoint will be hosting three home games, with the potential for a 4th home playoff game.

For the 2017 season all athletes between 3rd through 8th grades will register through the Spokane YMCA. Early Registration is now open through Aug. 2, with late registration available until Aug. 25 (registration info below).

The 3rd and 4th grade league costs $195, with six games beginning on Sept. 16. The 5th through grade leagues cost $235, with an eight game schedule beginning on Sept. 9. All games are played on Saturdays.

Financial assistance is available and applications must be submitted prior to registration. Please call the YMCA at 509-777-9622 to get your application started. No athlete will be turned away based on ability to pay.

Sandpoint YMCA Grid Kids Tackle Football has participated in the YMCA leagues for the last 10 years. The 2016 season was extremely successful not only in terms of wins and losses, but also player participation. The participation with the organization offers a tackle football option for grades 3-8 competing against teams from around the Inland Northwest.

The YMCA brings national experience and competency to the football field. Safety equipment, including pads and helmets that are professionally fitted, is included in the cost of registration. All coaches, both head and assistant, have been “Heads Up” certified. Heads Up Football is a comprehensive program developed by USA Football to advance player safety in the game of football.
