Work to close city's crossings

PONDERAY — Union Pacific Railroad will be completing maintenance and repairs on the crossings at Eastgate and Kootenai Cutoff roads, starting as soon as this weekend.

The work will result in each crossing being closed for approximately 24 hours at some point during the week, Ponderay city officials said, adding that only one crossing will close at a time. Union Pacific notified the city of Ponderay about the work Friday, and while the company plans to begin the work as soon as Sunday, specific closure times were not available.

In the notification to the city, Union Pacific officials said that as soon as the workers get permission, they will get started, which could be "as early as Sunday or as late as the end of the week."
