SANDPOINT — City Beach lifeguards teamed up with Bonner County EMS and Selkirk Fire Rescue & EMS personnel teamed up Saturday to conduct joint training on water-related emergencies and the treatment of drowning patients.

The training exercises follow two rescues by City Beach lifeguards earlier this month.

The purpose of the training exercise was to optimize response and treatment from the water, beach, ambulance and hospital so there is a smooth transition of care from the lifeguards to the incoming medical units, said Bob Abbott, Bonner EMS spokesman and training coordinator.

Bonner County EMS often conducts joint training exercises.
