AUSTIN, Texas — Washington State junior distance runner Sam Levora capped his best season as a Cougar recently at the NCAA Outdoor Western Championships at the University of Texas in Austin.

The former Sandpoint athlete was the lone Cougar to qualify for both the 5,000 and 10,000 meters, as earning a spot in the NCAAs is a feat in its own right.

Once there, he rose to the occasion, especially in the 10,000 meters, where he finished 15th out of 45 runners in a time of 30:12.95. Among the schools Levora beat in the grueling distance race were UCLA, Cal, BYU, Kansas, Missouri, Stanford, Nebraska and Oregon.

In the 5,000 meters, he finished 25th out of 44 with a time of 14:46.06, ending a great junior year in both track and cross country while competing at the highest level of the sport.
