SCC announces winter honor roll

SPOKANE — The winter 2017 honor roll list at Spokane Community College includes more than 2,200 students, including several students from the area. To receive honor roll status, students must earn a 3.0 grade point average or higher.

Students earning a spot on the list are Cynthia Smith of Blanchard, Linda Snider of Oldtown, Riley Couch of Sandpoint, Shelby Bishop of Blanchard, and Melissa Ledoux of Oldtown.

Spokane Community College is one of the largest community colleges in the state and serves more than 20,000 students every year. SCC has provided college transfer, career-technical and adult basic educational opportunities to hundreds of thousands of students in Eastern Washington since 1963. The main campus is located in Spokane, but there are centers in Colville, Newport, Republic, Ione and Inchelium.

Local students earn dean’s list honors

NEWBERG, Oregon — Local students were among those who earned dean’s list recognition at George Fox University for the fall 2016 semester. Traditional undergraduate students must earn a 3.5 grade point average or above on 12 or more hours of graded work to earn a spot on the dean’s list.

The following students received recognition:

Anna Alsager, Sagle, sophomore, cinema and media communication; Joab Logan, Sandpoint, junior, marketing; and Claire Pierce, Sandpoint, freshman, history and philosophy.

George Fox University offers bachelor’s degrees in more than 40 majors, degree-completion programs for working adults, six seminary degrees, and 13 master’s and doctoral degrees.

Sandpoint student among MSU grads

BOZEMAN — Brynn Prophet of Sandpoint was among the 733 Montana State University undergraduates who received diplomas during MSU’s 2016 fall commencement ceremony held Dec. 17 in Brick Breeden Fieldhouse.

John Heminway, a Montana-based writer and documentary filmmaker whose work has earned him two Emmys, two Peabody Awards and a duPont-Columbia University journalism award, among other honors, received an honorary doctorate in arts during the ceremony. He also delivered the charge to the graduates.

In addition, MSU President Waded Cruzado presented the President’s Medallion to Dorothy “Dotty” Bracken for her past and continued support of the university and its programs. The Montana State University President’s Medallion is an award given by the president to honor individuals who have made significant contributions to the educational, cultural, economic, scientific and/or social advancement of MSU and/or the region.
