Andrew Keaton Griffin, 42

Andrew Keaton Griffin, 42, passed away on Wednesday, May 24, 2017, in Spokane, Wash. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 17, 2017, at Ball & Dodd Funeral Home on W. Wellesley Avenue.

Andrew was born on Sept. 17, 1974, in Vung Tau, Vietnam. He was part of the famous Operation Baby Lift leaving Saigon in South Vietnam in April 1974. His parents, Greta Keaton and Gary Griffin adopted Andrew through the Holt International Adoption Agency. He arrived in the U.S. when he was 7 months old. They brought him home to Milwaukie, Ore. In November 1978, Andrew became an American citizen while the family was living in Milwaukie. In 1980, they moved to Sandpoint to be closer to family. Then, the family moved to Spokane in 1986.

Andrew went to school in the Mead School District, graduating from Mead High School. He finished his associate’s degree at Spokane Falls Community College and completed additional certifications related to technology. He had a variety of jobs in architectural drafting, banking, technology and the golf industry. Andy enjoyed his job at Huckleberry’s in Rosauers at the North Division Y.

Andy was an outdoorsman. His passion was golfing with family and friends. He enjoyed volunteering for First Tee, a children’s golf program. He loved his two dogs and cats. He also enjoyed fishing and camping, gardening, raising ducks and chickens.

Andrew is survived by his parents, Greta Keaton and Gary Griffin of Spokane; a daughter, Skyler Keaton Griffin of Henderson, Nev.; and an aunt, Trudy Greene (Dusty Rief) of Nine Mile Falls, Wash.; an uncle, Kim Keaton (Julie) of Sandpoint; a grandmother, Dorothy Keaton of Sandpoint; an uncle, Kim Griffin of La Pine, Ore.; and cousins, Brent Greene (Carrie) of Casper, Wyo., Alissa Freeman (Mike) of Post Falls, Idaho, Kaleb Keaton (Britta) of Beaverton, Ore., Elizabeth “Zibby” Keaton (Matt) Coolidge of Brooklyn, N.Y., Chelle Griffin of Sebastopol, Calif., Mike Griffin of Medford, Ore., and Wendy Griffin of Medford; and five second cousins, Mikayla Freeman, Lucas, Liam, Lily and Lindsey Greene.

Memorial donations may be made to World Relief Spokane, 1522 N. Washington St., Suite 204, Spokane, WA 99201. This center works to resettle refugees from around the world.
