7B Nordic Ski Summer Camp offers great workout

| June 24, 2017 1:00 AM

SANDPOINT — The Sandpoint Nordic Youth Ski League is introducing a new summer fitness program for kids, designed to improve strength, agility and endurance.

Nordic “dryland” or off-season training is quickly becoming a desired model or fitness program for many athletes across the country. Nordic (cross country) skiing is obviously a sport that requires snow, but because it is an endurance sport, Nordic coaches have designed off-season training programs aimed at keeping their athletes fit and strong throughout the year, while minimizing over-use injuries.

Even coaches from other sports are finding this sort of fitness programming beneficial for their athletes.

Kids participating in this summer program do not have to be skiers. While the coaches will introduce some Nordic specific drills, the overall training goal is simply to improve the athletes’ overall fitness that they can apply to any sport.

This program is run on Mondays and Thursdays, from 8-9:30 a.m. Mondays meet at Travers Park and Thursdays are a trail run on Syringa trails, meeting at the Pine street trailhead.

Additionally, there are three adventure Saturday outings where athletes explore the trails in our area.

Nordic Youth Director, Vicki Longhini, can be contacted for information on fees and sign-up. Inquiries should be made to sandpointnordic@gmail.com.
