New Dufort site opens Thursday

SAGLE — Residents will encounter an improved solid waste transfer site and more recycling options when Bonner County’s new Dufort facility opens on Thursday.

The site opens at 7:30 a.m. with dignitaries on hand.

The new site was approved in the summer of 2016 by county commissioners Glen Bailey, Cary Kelly and Todd Sudick.  

It is located just northwest of the existing location at the intersection of U.S. Highway 95 and Dufort Road. Commissioners will be attending the opening ceremonies at the new location as well. 

Bonner County’s new-look solid waste site is larger and will include single-stream recycling, a new and more convenient way to recycle. This pilot project is supported by the current board of commissioners, Glen Bailey, Dan McDonald and Jeff Connolly. Waste Management and Bonner County Solid Waste are working together to make the single-stream recycle program successful. The purpose of the pilot is to assess whether citizens appreciate the convenience of single stream recycling and whether it results in more recycling. Single-stream recycling consists of clean paper, cardboard, glass bottles, jars, foil, metal and plastic containers.

The old Dufort transfer site will be closing today at 3 p.m.

Waste Management and the Bonner County officials encourage everyone to participate in the recycling program.
