Janet (Jan) J. Hassler, 63, peacefully passed away surrounded by family on Monday, June 19, 2017, in Sandpoint, Idaho.

Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 19, 2017, at the Lakeview Funeral Home with Pastor Lori Morton of the First Lutheran Church officiating.

Jan was born on Dec. 31, 1953, in Hackensack, N.J., to George and Elizabeth Yates. She graduated from River Dell High School in Oradell, N.J., and then attended St. Petersburg Jr. College in Florida. She then moved with a friend to Twentynine Palms, Calif., and went to work for Sears, in Indio, before joining Anderson Travel.

Jan married Chris Hassler on Oct. 3, 1987, in Palm Springs. They lived in Cathedral City and she worked for Anderson Travel in Palm Springs. They have three daughters together, Kia, Kellie, and Katy. In 1999, Jan and her family moved to Sandpoint. Jan worked for Schweitzer Mountain Resort and then Walmart, first in the photo lab in 2000 and then in the Vision Center when it first opened in 2001. She was then promoted to manager of the Walmart Vision Center in 2010.

While her daughters were young, she served as a Girl Scout leader and volunteer at their school functions, including four senior Grad Night parties for Sandpoint High School students. She enjoyed organizing and planning events, traveling, skiing, shopping, but most important to Jan was spending time with her family.

She is survived by her husband, Chris Hassler of Sandpoint; three daughters, Kia Hassler of Boise, Kellie (John) Lorimor of Boise, and Katy Hassler (DJ Nelson) of Boise; two grandchildren, Jayde Nelson and Wyatt Lorimor; stepson, Gary R. Hassler of Coeur d’Alene; brother Robert (Fran) Yates of Westwood, N.J.; and nephews Christopher, Paul and Leighton Yates.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
