Crowley fires 79 to lead Bulldogs at Idaho Club

SANDPOINT — Junior Nick Crowley posted the best round of the season, carding a 79 to lead the Bulldog golfers on Monday at the Sandpoint Invite, played at the Idaho Club, the lone Jack Niklaus golf course in Idaho.
Lake Wilks continues his steady play, firing a 84 as the Bulldog boys closed the gap to just one stroke on 4A rival Lakeland.
“Nick had the third lowest score in the tournament,” said Bulldog head coach Tom Tharp. “Lake continues to be on cruise control.”
Caroline Hawkins was the lone Bulldog girls to break 100, carding a 97 on a tough day for a team that had been on a roll.
“The girls had a tough day,” admitted Tharp. “Their chipping and putting was good, but they had a hard time driving the ball.”
The Post Falls boys won by two strokes, and the Lakeland girls won in playoff after tying at 390 with Post Falls. All five players played the par 3 No. 16 again, with the top four scores counting. The Hawks posted a 15, while the Trojans shot 16, as the area teams got to experience the Idaho Club.
For the Bulldogs, as well as everyone else for that matter, it was just nice to play under sunny skies for a change.
“This is the first time they’ve played where it hasn’t rained,” said Tharp, as the tourney wrapped up before the rain hit. “First dry golf round of the year.”
Regional teams are at the Lakeland Invite on Friday, with the boys at the Links in Post Falls and the girls at Twin Lakes.
