Jack Murray notified police Tuesday that names had been written in freshly poured concrete at the Co-op Gas and Supply at Fifth and Church.

TIGER FOUND

Dave Dalby notified police April 28 that the stuffed tiger, stolen from his service station, was found on the beach at Dover and returned.

THREE YOUNG MEN ENLIST IN NAVY

Three Bonner county men recently enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the recruiting station in Coeur d’Alene and are now in boot camp at the U.S. Naval Training Station at San Diego.

The new Navy men are Robert Bennett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Shelby Bennett, Ponderay; Chuck Therien, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Therien, Clark Fork; and Philip Turner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Turner, Star Route, Sandpoint.

CEDAR POST WINS HONORS

Cedar Post, the SHS newspaper, received an honorable mention award for front page makeup of a printed newspaper at the spring workshop of the State High School Press Association at Idaho State University, Pocatello. Individuals honored were Bill Carter, who won third place in best sports stories and Connie Collison who won an honorable mention in regular features.

Journalism teacher Bob Hamilton is advisor.

Pend d’Oreille Review

May 7, 1917 – CITY BREVITIES

The Northern Pacific has a work train engaged in rock ballasting the grade to the long bridge, as a precaution against washout from high water. The job will require about 250 carloads of rock.

H.L. Mountjoy, to whom the contract was let, has started work on the new garage at the corner of Fourth and Cedar streets which Herman Lane will build for Al Filson, who will have a ten-year lease upon the property. The 50x142 foot brick garage will cost $10,000. It will be modern in all appointments with a business office, salesroom and ladies’ restroom. It will be ready for occupancy in 60 days.

Mrs. G.H. Martin, president of the Red Cross chapter, requests parties having articles to donate for the rummage sale, to telephone Mrs. Robert Coons No. 6SW who will arrange to care for them. The president urges doing this as soon as possible, so the sale can be set for an early date.

Miss Mary O’Brien, who is studying to be a nurse at Sacred Heart hospital, spent Saturday and Sunday at her home east of Kootenai.

ARMY AND NAVY TAKE FINGER PRINTS

The army and navy are taking finger prints of all men who enlist so that in case of death or illness the victim may be identified. The police once aided the government in this work but today the army and navy have their own print system.
