Sadly, the current LPOSD board trustees are neither proactive nor reactive but rather, status quo. Rarely do they ask in-depth questions in school board meetings before signing on to whatever item or strategy has been proposed by the administrators. Alternatives to important issues are not produced or give short shrift. This go-along-to-get-along attitude must change if we are to encourage and produce the standard of education or students deserve and at a level of fiscal ability the residents of the district can afford.

School board trustees are accountable to the community they serve and should not merely be bureaucrats supporting a party line. They are the governing body overseeing the school district’s academic and fiscal matters. The current budget of LPOSD is $31 million. That’s a lot of money under the spending authority of a board that tends to vote unanimously for whatever the superintendent of CFO propose.

I believe we need change of the board. Some longtime members have decided to leave, and while I commend anyone who steps up to serve in that unpaid elected position, I think a fresh look at things from someone who has taken an interest in quality e3ducation while being a good steward of taxpayer money will be a plus. Otherwise, I see the district continuing to march to the drum of internal, non-elected officials.

Please vote for Anita Perry.
