| May 13, 2017 1:00 AM

LEWISTON — A number of solid performances were turned in by the Bulldog track and field team on Thursday and Friday during the 4A Region 1 Championships at Coeur d’Alene and Lewiston High School.

A total of 20 Bulldogs finished either first or second to punch their tickets to state, while a host of others will hope their marks and times earn an at-large selection.

Spencer Bassett jumped a personal best 41-6 to win the triple jump, Cole Hooper cleared 13-2 to win the pole vualt, and Erik Suhr clocked a personal best 23.4 to finish second in the 200 to lead the Bulldog boys.

T.J. Davis, who missed the season with an ankle injury, returned and won the 110 high hurdles in his first race of the season.

“He hasn’t been able to run or race. You could tell he was rusty, each hurdle he got a little more lower and a little more comfortable,” described Bulldogs head coach Matt Brass, also lauding Suhr. “It was really fun to watch his progression over the last four years. He’s really blossomed.”

Bassett, Suhr, Julian Barajas and Ammon Ollerton won the 4x200 relay, and Bassett, Suhr, Ollerton and Tyren Witthaus won the 4x100, and Zack Alamillo won the discus for the Bulldog boys team. Also earning spots at state for the boys were Finan Lund-Andersen (2nd in 3,200), Sam Diercks (2nd in pole vault) and Kyle Almeida (2nd in 400).

Jazmin Stockton, Bailee Klopman, Valerie Wickboldt and Jaelyn Martin won the 4x100, and Martin, Stockton, Wickboldt and Dana Beaty won the 4x200 in a strong showing of relay depth for the Bulldog girls, who finished second to Lakeland by three points as a team.

Hannah Davidson won the 800 and was second in the pole vault, Katherine Kaul was second in the 3,200 and 1,600, Stockton was second in the 100, Emily Huang was second in the high jump and Maddie Morgan second in both the long jump and triple jump to lead a strong group of Bulldogs to state.

“We had a lot of kids in three and four events. A really serious group of kids, great attitudes,” said Bulldogs head coach Matt Brass. “They were all engaged with each other through the last race. They were really close to what we thought they could do across the board.”

The state track meet will be held on Friday and Saturday in Boise.
