Donald Trump’s original sin was Michael Flynn.

We now know that Trump had him vetted and was aware of his connection to Turkey as a foreign agent. We also know that Flynn knew about the prohibition for retired military officers taking money from foreign governments without prior approval. We know that Vice-president Pence, as head of the Trump transition team, knew of the Flynn issues long before he claimed to be learning for the first time in March. What we don’t know is why Michael Flynn was chosen to be the National Security Adviser.

What all this tells us is that the Trump Administration, starting at the top, is rife with liars. The only thing that is protecting this man, so clearly unfit for the presidency—by character, temperament and ability, is the unswerving tribalism of his supporters.

It’s time to abandon party and power to do what’s right for the country. Do we have any leaders who are capable of such an act of patriotism?
