Annual Ride of Silence set for Wednesday at City Beach

| May 16, 2017 1:00 AM

SANDPOINT — Join other cyclists around the world for the 15th Annual Ride of Silence bike ride on Wednesday, May 17. Local Cyclists will meet at Sandpoint City Beach at 5:30 p.m. for a silent, slow-paced ride in honor of those who have been injured or killed while cycling on public roadways.

In 2003, Chris Phelan organized the first Ride of Silence in Dallas after endurance cyclist Larry Schwartz was hit by the mirror of a passing bus and was killed. Last year, there were 445 organized rides in all 50 states and 48 countries.

This year’s route is about nine miles long, and all participants must wear a helmet. All bikes and their riders are welcome. The ride will end at Idaho Pour Authority for the Chafe 150 Happy Hour.
