| May 31, 2017 1:00 AM

SANDPOINT — Sandpoint junior Hannah Davidson and senior Spencer Bassett each won the David Lyon Award, as the Bulldog track and field team celebrated the season with an awards banquet recently.

The Lyon Award is basically the team MVP by points who exemplifies the spirit of hard work and team, and Davidson won the award for the second straight season after finishing third at state in the 800, while Bassett flirted with school records in both the triple and long jump.

The Senior Academic Awards were given to Erik Suhr and Dana BeatyC, and the coaches also handed out the following awards:

n Sprints — Erik Suhr, Jazmin Stockton and Ammon Ollerton.

n Jumps — Maddie Morgan.

n Hurdles — T.J. Davis, Paige Davidson.

n Pole Vault — Cole Hooper, Slade Rucker, Lily Walkdrup and Paige Davidson.

n Throws — Victoria Aylward and Zack Alamillo.

n Distance — Katherine Kaul, Ephriam Weisz, Dana Beaty and Clay Rasmussen.

There were two school records established this season, with Hannah Davidson breaking her own school record with a 2:18.1 at state in the 800, and also teamed with YeoWon Yarnell, Kali Scheel and Katherine Kaul to break the 4x800 relay record with a 10:04.

The Bulldog coaches also wished to recognize Rainey Woodward, who served as manager as a senior. Woodward won one state title in track and another two in cross country, leaving a big mark on the program despite missing her senior season.
