In response to Mr. Joseph Wythe’s letter (Nov. 2, 2017, Daily Bee):

Just for fun, let’s assume Mr. Wythe is correct for one moment. Let’s assume for the sake of argument, that the Second Amendment only guarantees the right of gun ownership if there is a government-sponsored militia. It still does not forbid the ownership of firearms by private citizens, only guarantees the right for a militia. If the Constitution doesn’t expressly forbid something, then the 10th Amendment kicks in. I will politely point Mr. Wythe to the Idaho State Constitution, where private guns rights are enshrined.

However, I have a proposal to satisfy Mr. Wythe. I propose the formation of the Bonner County Militia. There will be no meetings, no training, and no membership dues. The only requirement for membership is to own a gun and be willing to come to the defense of your neighbors if needed.

Problem solved.
