VanderMaas kicking off campaign in N. Idaho

SANDPOINT — First Congressional District candidate James VanderMaas is kicking off his statewide “Bringing People Together/Listening Tour” in North Idaho.

VanderMaas is kicking off the tour at 1 p.m. Friday at Idaho Pour Authority, 203 Cedar St., in Sandpoint, where he will meet and talk with area residents. Later Friday, at 6 p.m., the Democrat will be at the Innovation Den, 418 East Lakeside Ave., in Coeur d’Alene.

The Sandpoint event is sponsored by the Bonner County Democratic Central Committee.

The Sandpoint and Coeur d’Alene campaign stops are part of VanderMaas’ official kickoff of his candidacy for Idaho’s 1st district congressional race on Veterans Day weekend, Nov 10-13. Additional stop will take place in Plummer and Moscow, with the candidate arriving in McCall on Sunday and eventually in Fruitland.

“Come out for an afternoon of discussion on the issues that matter to Idahoans and to hear VanderMaas’ plans to move Idaho forward,” said Sylvia Humes, chair of the Bonner County Democratic Committee.

VanderMaas, who notes he has a life-long passion for public service, will officially announce his candidacy on Veteran’s Day.

“We are enthusiastic about James’ candidacy for our congressional district” said Humes. “He brings to the table a lifetime of real work and business experience, public service commitment, and family values.”

VanderMaas’ background includes experience in law enforcement, experience in business, having had several businesses, including a telecommunications company he ran for over nine years; and a labor side, having been the shop steward and negotiator for over 12 years at his department.

VanderMaas said his wide range of experience gave him the ability to see that there are viable solutions where government can establish a healthy relationship with businesses to grow the economy and give tax breaks, while creating jobs. There are affordable alternatives where everyone can get healthcare, without increased costs.

“Whether we consider ourselves liberal, progressive, independent, Democrat, moderate, conservative or even a Republican, James knows we all have the same wants, the same dreams and goals, the same concerns,” his campaign staff noted in a press release about the tour. “We all want the same things for our families — regardless of what we believe our politics is, because we all want the best for our families, and for our children to be able to realize their dreams.
