COEUR d’ALENE — The city by the lake is about to take on its holiday glow.

The official lighting ceremony for The Coeur d’Alene Resort’s annual Holiday Light Show will take place this Friday with a spectacular fireworks show presented by Duane and Lola Hagadone and their family.

“Being a part of family traditions and helping get our community in the holiday spirit brings our family great joy,” said Brad Hagadone, president of the Hagadone Corporation. “Sharing that special moment as the fireworks stop and The Resort and lake come to life with the magic of the season... It’s something we look forward to each year. We hope everyone can join us for the kickoff to an amazing holiday season.”

The 2017 Holiday Light Show Opening Ceremony kicks off with a downtown parade along Sherman Avenue at 5 p.m. Crowds will then gather along the lakefront to sing Christmas carols and light candles. More than 30,000 spectators are expected.

Brad Hagadone will host the ceremony and the guest of honor will be Mont Garman, Chief Financial Officer of the Hagadone Corporation. Garman has been with the company for 31 years.

Garman, along with his wife, Amy, and two sons, Adam and Lucas, will lead the crowd in counting down to set off the fireworks show above Lake Coeur d’Alene. Immediately after the 1,200-shell extravaganza, more than 1.5 million lights will illuminate the lake.

Hagadone Hospitality puts 10 full-time employees to the task of putting up all those lights. They start at the beginning of October and they finish up just in time for the festivities.

This year the lights will shine through Jan. 1, with Journey to the North Pole cruises departing nightly across the lake. The show brings back favorites like the animated Christmas tree, the fire-breathing dragon, Santa’s sleigh and more. Parents and kids alike will smile when Santa reads each child’s name from the nice list when the cruise boat visits his North Pole workshop. Plus, there will be a spectacular fireworks display at Santa’s workshop every night for each cruise.

In 2016, The Coeur d’Alene Resort earned a spot on the “10 Underrated Places with Fantastic Holiday Celebrations” list as seen on US News, Yahoo News and more. In 2015, the Holiday Light Show and The Resort secured a spot on the “Top Holiday Hotels” list from USA Today.
