Oct. 1, 1967 – STANDARDS APPROVED

Idaho’s water quality standards and the plan for implementation, enforcement and surveillance were approved Aug. 7 by Secretary of the Interior Stewart L. Udall. Idaho is one of the first 10 states having water quality standards approved. The standards bear upon pollution by man’s activities that degrade water quality by waste discharge.

MRS. KENNEY TO PRESENT PROGRAM

Sandpoint Civic Club will meet Monday at Community hall, with Mrs. Neil Kenney giving a program on “Public Affairs.” Jack Ross, sanitary engineer for the Idaho state health department and member of the newly formed county planning commission, will explain the commission’s functions and the part it will play in recreation, highway construction and industry in the county.

AIRMAN BENDA NOW IN VIETNAM

Airman 2nd Class Dennis R. Benda, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth E. Benda, Ponderay, and SHS graduate, is on duty at Nha Trang AB, Vietnam.

A radio operator, Benda is a member of the Pacific Air Force which provides tactical air power supporting the U.S. and its allies in Southeast Asia and the Far East. Before going to Southeast Asia he was assigned to Fairchild AFB, Spokane.

Pend d’Oreille Review

Oct. 1, 1917 – SURVEYING SAND CREEK

At the meeting of the special committee from the city council and commercial club last Saturday it was decided to make a survey of Sand creek to ascertain the necessary height of the proposed dam, so that the matter can be intelligently presented to the public. A survey being made this week will be completed in time for the committee to consider at its next meeting, tomorrow night.

GERMAN SUBJECTS HAVE TO WAIT

Saturday was naturalization day in district court.

Former subjects of Germany are not eligible to naturalization but those of Austria are, the declaration of war by the United States being confined to Germany and not embracing Austria.

Ludwig Woefel, a subject of Germany, could not be admitted to citizenship at this time and his case was continued until the close of the war.

The following were issued their final papers: John Hodge, Laclede, and William Rusemstrom, Sandpoint (Great Britain); Joseph Sitko and Alvin Honl, Sandpoint (Austria); Otto Swanstrom, Kootenai (Sweden); C.N. Krogstad, Sandpoint (Norway); Frank Lund, Cabinet, (Russia).

CITY BREVITIES

John Page left today for Portland to finish his senior year in the Northwest Dental college.

A bill making the 8-hour law compulsory in the lumber industry of the United States has been introduced by Senator Poindexter; Congressman French will introduce a similar bill in the house.
