Dustbowl Revival to kick off POAC's season

| October 6, 2017 1:00 AM

“This band is infectious! So feel good, I can’t wipe the smile from my face!” If you want to experience this happy feeling, you’ll want to be sure to come to Pend Oreille Arts Council’s Performing Arts Series opening presentation of Dustbowl Revival on Friday, October 13 at 7 p.m. at the Panida.

“One of the best shows I’ve ever seen live. Blew the house away in Columbus Ohio. Can’t wait to see them again.” Stephen Ball posted a few months ago on Dustbowl Revival’s You Tube page. And, if you’re so inclined, you may want to take a peek at their new album for a preview of the exhilarating new sounds this group is becoming known for.

This eight-piece band has evolved their sound over the last ten years. In a description on their website they say that Dustbowl Revival “mines an energizing vein of soul, funk and roots-infused rock that evokes the work of Fleetwood Mac, Paul Simon, Aretha Franklin and classic Stax recordings, and fits the band alongside such contemporaries as Nathanial Rateliff & the Night Sweats and St. Paul & the Broken Bones.”

Opening the evening is the band Shakewell from Missoula. If you want to check out their You Tube page, be sure not to look at Shakewell the rapper (they’re not one and the same). Shakewell is a seven-piece band of lifelong friends and collaborators who knock out sounds that will have you kicking off your shoes and dancing in the aisles as they thump out funk, neo-soul and rock ‘n’ roll.

If you haven’t purchased your season tickets to POAC’s Performing Arts Series, go to www.artinsandpoint.org to become a supporter today. Funds from events are used to continue to provide educational components to each of POAC’s programs.

For instance, the band Shakewell will be holding a workshop for high school students prior to Friday’s performance. During this discussion the group will talk about their experience creating a business focused on their shared passion for music. These programs are only possible with the support of the community.

Individual tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for POAC supporters and $10 for those 18 years of age and younger. Tickets can be purchased at Eichardt’s Pub, Eve’s Leaves, Winter Ridge, POAC Office and Gallery and at the Panida box office on the evening of the performance.
