Harvest great entertainment as autumn continues
SANDPOINT – Well, they’re talkin’ Oktoberfest this week, so its harvest time for the fall entertainment season. Along with that German-themed action on Sunday, check out POAC’s Dustbowl Revival concert Friday night at the Panida, as well as the community contra dance that same night at Community Hall.
Saturday brings the ‘Fall for Sandpoint’ event to downtown stores, Indie Author Day to the Panida Little Theater and Hickey Farms hosts its Harvest Festival through the weekend. Lots of live sounds abound, so pop into your favorite haunts and support local music!

Friday, Oct. 13
‘Dustbowl Revival’
Venue: Panida Theater, 300 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.
Time: 7 p.m.
POAC partners with Mattox Farm Productions to present The Dustbowl Revival, whose joyous Americana soul vibes won them ‘the best live band in LA’ recognition by LA Weekly. One night only with Missoula’s Shakewell as the opening act, thumping out funk and soul to get the party started.

Sandpoint Contra Dance
Venue: Sandpoint Community Hall, 204 S. First Ave., in Sandpoint.
Time: 7-10 p.m.
Celebrate the joys of community by dancing with friends – those you already know and the new ones you’re about to meet! Live music will be provided by ‘Out of the Wood’ and all dances are called by Emily Faulkner. Previous dancing experience is not necessary. First-time dancers are encouraged to arrive on time for an introductory dance at 7 pm. Bring clean, comfortable, non-marking shoes to dance in.

Ron Greene
Venue: MickDuff’s Beer Hall, 220 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.
Time: 6:30 p.m.
Ron Greene is heading north for another special night at the Beer Hall. Ron has been a dynamic musical presence as a professional musician and solo artist, spending the last decade performing throughout the Northwest and West Coast. As a soloist, Greene’s intimate stage presence has gained him a reputation as a passionate singer.

Mike Waggoner
Venue: Pend d’Oreille Winery, 301 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.

Come hang out with Mike as you enjoy his songs and stories.

Beat Diggers
Venue: 219 Lounge, 219 First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Bring your dancing shoes and enjoy one of Sandpoint’s favorite up and coming all local bands as they play your favorite rock and roll tunes.

Pink Floyd Tribute to ‘The Wall’
Venue: The Bing Crosby Theater, 909 W. First Ave., in Spokane.
Time: 8 p.m.
Portland, Ore.-based Pink Floyd tribute Pigs on the Wing brings an intense, high energy experience to the table that is both true to the original and unapologetic in its interpretation, something which the band members believe has set it apart from the other tributes from the very beginning.

‘Bubblelandia’ Underwater Bubble Show
Venue: Martin Woldson Theater at the Fox, 1001 W. Sprague Ave., in Spokane.
Time: 7 p.m.
Join Mr. B as he is transported to the beautiful underwater world of Bubblelandia, filled with colorful sea creatures and bubbles. Dance, puppetry, juggling, contortionism, sand art and a little bit of magic are combined in this circus-like show, bringing fantasy to life and delighting audiences of all ages.

Saturday, Oct. 14
‘Fall For Sandpoint’
Venue: Downtown Sandpoint
Time: 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
Great deals at downtown merchants, fun stuff for kids to do, product demos and more as you shop local, save local and support local causes in the bargain, since a portion of the day’s proceeds go to area non-profits.
Indie Author Day
Venue: Panida Little Theater, 302 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.
Time: 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
This is the event of the year for independent local writers and their readers – author presentations, expert panelists, open mic readings, book signings and excellent networking opportunities.

Harvest Festival

Time: 10:30 a.m.-dusk, Saturdays through Oct. 22
U-pick pumpkins, face painting, crafts and loads of kids activities, food vendors and live entertainment by Star the Magician, plus classes by the Pottery Bug from 1-3 p.m. This is an amazing family event, not to be missed!

Harold’s IGA
Venue: 219 Lounge, 219 First Ave., in Sandpoint.
Time: 9 p.m.
A Sandpoint favorite multi-instrumental trio that plays folk rock originals and off-the-beaten track covers from artists like Ween, Talking Heads and Violent Femmes.
Admission: Free for those 21 and over.
Live Music
Venue: Farmin Park, Third Ave. & Oak St., downtown Sandpoint.
Time: Market starts at 9 a.m., music from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
There’s nothing like live music floating through the air as you stroll through our magical farmer’s market.

Brian Jacobs
Venue: Pend d’Oreille Winery, 301 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.
Time: 5-8 p.m.
Brian Jacobs brings an eclectic, acoustic sound. His music style encompasses Folk, Rock and Soul.

Fall Cornhole Classic
Venue: MickDuff’s Beer Hall, 312 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.
Time: Registration ends at 12:30 p.m., first toss at 1 p.m.
Cornhole kings and queens will be taking to outdoor court to test their tossin’ abilities.
Register via phone at 208-209-6700, by dropping in days before or day of at 11am (that’s when the doors open). This event takes place rain or shine.
Admission: $20 buy-in per team, $10 per person for those 21 and over.
Cliff Hangers
Venue: MickDuff’s Beer Hall, 220 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.
Time: 6:30 p.m.
This local band describes themselves as an acoustic band, with traditional bluegrass/folk instruments. Their style is an amalgam of many genres including country, blues, and swing. Break out the dancing shoes!

Individual World Poetry Slam Finals
Venue: The Bing Crosby Theater, 909 W. First Ave., in Spokane.
Time: 10- a.m.-11 p.m.
Spokane, WA and Poetry Slam Inc. (PSi) present the 2017 Individual World Poetry Slam! The Individual World Poetry Slam is a poetry slam festival created by PSi giving poets the opportunity to compete outside of a team competition for the title of the Individual World Poetry Slam Champion.

Spokane Symphony Pops: ‘Super Diamond’

Oktoberfest Fall Celebration
Venue: Beet & Basil, 105 S. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

This first annual, family friendly Oktoberfest Fall Celebration includes a host of oversized games such as Jumbo Jenga, Colossal Connect Four and more, plus arts and crafts, live music, German food and beer. Funds raised will support the exciting library expansion now going on at the East Bonner County Library Distict’s Sandpoint branch.

Gonzaga Symphony Orchestra opens their season with a performance of Édouard Lalo’s Cello Concerto, featuring renowned cellist Lynn Harrell. The concert begins with Dvorák’s cheerful Symphony No. 8, infused by Bohemian folk music of the composer’s native land.
