Oct. 19, 1967 – MOVING DAY AT FARM

Jim Benson, manager of U of I’s Sandpoint experiment farm, is busy moving machinery, tools, supplies and equipment from the old buildings into the new cement block structure. The new facilities are on the farm about a quarter mile north of the original buildings. About 20 acres of land have been sold from the south end of the property to give Great Northern Railway a right of way for new tracks to be laid in the area now occupied by the dwelling, barns and shops, all of which are slated for demolition.

SEVENTEEN JOURNALISM STUDENTS

Eleven students are enrolled in journalism I this year and six in journalism II, according to Mr. Hamilton, the class instructor. The second year students are responsible for publishing the Cedar Post, the school newspaper, the second edition of which will be distributed this Friday. The first year journalism students prepare the high school news column for the News-Bulletin.

DOOM SPELLED FOR MAINSTREETER

Loss of a U.S. mail hauling contract and the postal mail cars on the Mainstreeter trains Nos. 1 and 2 from Chicago to Seattle has caused the N.P. to request permission to discontinue these trains. Northern Pacific plans to continue operation of its top train, the North Coast Limited.

Oct. 19, 1917 – MORE BOOTLEGGERS

Sheriff Remer last night picked up two autos, one a Saxon Six, the other an Overland, laden with booze. With the addition of these to his own cars the sheriff’s office looks much as though he had opened a garage.

WIVES MAY GO TO CHARLOTTE

Many Idaho girls who married members of the Second Idaho before the regiment left for North Carolina want to go south and spend the next few months at Charlotte, near Camp Green. It is understood that already 14 wives have agreed to go if a large enough party can be secured to get a car at berth rates. The trip will cost $300 or $15 each if 20 young women decide to make the trip.

RED CROSS SHIPS 2,500 POUNDS

The Sandpoint chapter of the American Red Cross society on Monday shipped a big truck load of field and hospital supplies to the Seattle army supply headquarters. The shipment was in 10 large boxes having a total weight of 2500 pounds. There was a grand total of 5008 pieces manufactured by the ladies of Sandpoint chapter and auxiliaries in Bonner and Boundary counties, including bed sheets, pillow cases, bath towels, face and hand towels, wash cloths, pajamas, hospital bed sheets, convalescent gowns, socks, bed socks, slippers, handkerchiefs, various kinds of bandages, slings and pillows.
