SANDPOINT — The Basketball School of Sandpoint will debut soon, with skill development sessions offered for all 7-16 year-old youth every Tuesday and Thursday night at Northside Elementary School (7881 Colburn Culver Rd.), starting on Thursday, Nov. 2.

The school, which will be run by former college player Darren Laiche, is open to anyone who enjoys the game of basketball and wants to improve.

Each session will be unique, and include the necessary fundamentals of ball handling, passing, shooting, rebounding and defense. Participants will improve in skill, confidence and fitness level, and have a fun time in the process.

The eight session program will be held every Tuesday and Thursday at Northside, with the 7-10 year-olds going from 5-6:30 p.m., and the 11-16 year-olds following from 6:30-8 p.m.

Laiche has lived in Sandpoint for five years, and has been a player and coach at both the high school and college levels. He played on one and coached on two Louisiana teams that won high school state championships in the highest classification, and also played in two NCAA tournaments as a member of the University of New Orleans. He has run successful basketball camps in the past, and is hoping to spread his hoops knowledge to area youth.

The cost if $15 per session, but an eight session pack can be purchased for $99 as well as a monthly pass for $75, with each additional family member costing $10 less.
