Walkers celebrate 50th anniversary

| October 25, 2017 1:00 AM

Greg Walker and Betsy Diedrich met on a blind date set up by friends in Seattle in October 1966. The couple were married on Oct. 21, 1967, in Seattle.

Shortly after Betsy’s graduation from Seattle University in June 1968, they packed up and headed out for Anchorage, Alaska. Their son, Hon, was born there in March 1970.

Greg and Betsy have had a lifelong love of travel, so they set a goal of traveling to Europe in the fall of 1970 with their 7-month-old son. The Walkers returned to the U.S. in April 1971 to search for acreage that could feed their appetite for “going back to the earth.” They found a place they loved in the summer of ‘71 and with young energy, visions of gardening and the aid of intact muscles, they began realizing their dreams of a bucolic life. Their daughter, Holly was born in 1972.

At this point, Greg and Betsy have lived in the Selle Valley for 46 years and are happy to have raised their two children in this rural existence. And now it is their pleasure to have this “farm” for their grandchildren (Della and Miles Wheatcroft).

The family will celebrate Greg and Betsy’s 50th anniversary on Maui in Kihei this month.
