Entertainment options spook up plenty of good times

SANDPOINT — Halloween fun is the order of the day as we roll into that spooky celebration on the heels of live radio plays such as ‘The War of the Worlds’ onstage at the Panida, plus scary flicks and more.

There’s even a costume ball ‘Boo Bash’ on Saturday and tons of opportunities to dress up as your favorite ghoul, ghost or goblin at local watering holes. Also on tap, lots of cool concerts around the region.

Thursday, Oct. 26

‘War of the Worlds’

Venue: Panida Theater, 300 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 7:30 p.m.

The Panida Playhouse Players directed by Robert Moore are taking audiences back in time to a place that Orson Welles and his Mercury Theater broadcast to the nation the first true on-air thriller that threw the country into a panic! Come join us as we relive those exciting moments of the live on-air, 1938 broadcast of H.G. Wells’ phenomenon War of the Worlds.

‘Five Women Wearing the Same Dress’

Venue: NIC’s Boswell Hall Schuler Performing Arts Center, 1000 W. Garden Ave., in Coeur d’Alene.

Time: 7:30 p.m.

This funny, irreverent play by Alan Ball concerns five reluctant bridesmaids hiding out in an upstairs bedroom from an ostentatious wedding reception. Secrets are revealed and choices questioned, creating a common bond between them as well as moments of humor and pathos.

The play contains mature themes and language; it is not intended for children. No infants, please.

Jesus & Mary Chain

Venue: The Bing Crosby Theater, 909 W. First Ave., in Spokane.

Time: 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

The Stooges, the Ramones, Einstürzende Neubauten, The Shangri-Las: an eclectic range of influences for sure, and one that inspired brothers Jim and William Reid as The Jesus and Mary Chain emerged from Lanarkshire, Scotland, to become one of the most influential bands of their era. After some years apart, they reunited a few years back and have a solid new album to support on tour.

Miah Kohal Band

It’s definitely a night to rock when Miah and the band do their thing. Come in costume and add to the party atmosphere!

Harold’s IGA

Harold’s IGA is an indie rock band with an ever changing cast of characters. They play a ton of originals from their three albums.

Ron Kieper Trio

Venue: Pend d’Oreille Winery, 301 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.

‘Boo Bash’ Costume Ball Social Dance

Venue: Sandpoint Community Hall, 204 S. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 7-10 p.m.

The fun will begin with a one-hour Cha-Cha lesson taught by a professional instructor, followed by general dancing, refreshments, door prizes, mixers, prizes for the best costumes, and a drawing for a month of free dance classes. Singles, couples, and all levels of dancers are welcome!

83rd Anniversary with Harold’s IGA

Venue: 219 Lounge, 219 First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: Noon-Closing for party; Music starts at 9 p.m.

For 83 years running the 219 has been a Sandpoint icon and institution. Through thick and thin, it’s been open continuously at the same location since October, 1934. Recently renovated to it’s 1930’s era look and feel, you wouldn’t want to miss this annual party that starts at noon and goes to close.

Mobius Riff

Spokane Symphony: ‘Halloween at Hogwarts’

This is a dual headliner show with The Kitchen Dwellers and Horseshoes and Handgrenades. Cascade Crescendo will be the opening act to this amazing concert!

This year has been very good for the Kitchen Dwellers, the Montana-based quartet featuring Joe Funk (bass), Shawn Swain (mandolin), Torrin Daniels (banjo), and Max Davies (guitar).
