Sandpoint News-Bulletin Sept. 12, 1967 — CHILCO MILL BURNED

The Chilco sawmill operated by Hedlund Lumber Co. of Sandpoint was a total loss Sunday as an early morning fire leveled the structure. The fire, which was discovered at 1 a.m., is believed to have been started by some kind of an electrical failure in the mill’s compressor.

Enrollment for Bonner county schools for start of the 1967-68 academic year, according to Jack Jones totals 3,657, broken down as follows:

SQUARE DANCE ON SAFEWAY LOT

Circle ‘N Swing Square Dance Club will host a street dance on the Safeway Store parking lot on Saturday from 8 to 10 p.m. Bernie and Vi Hague from Coeur d’Alene will be callers.

H.W. Hochbaum, head of the state’s extension work, will be here the 29th to address a farmers’ meeting with the goal of organizing a county farm bureau to sustain a county agent in his work.

CITY SCHOOLS HAVE 913 ENROLLMENT

City schools opened with an attendance slightly larger than last year. Superintendent Henry is enthusiastic with the start-off, and notes in particular the excellent spirit apparent in the high school. Enrollment at the high school is as follows: Freshmen 73; Sophomores 35; Juniors 29; Seniors 25; Post Graduate 4.

The Farmin Building has 227 students (grades 1-8); Jefferson Building, 68 (grades 1-6); Lincoln Building, 184 (grades 1-8); Washington Building, 163 (grades 1-8); Dover School, 44 (grades 1-8); Bronx School, 11 (all grades); Great Northern, 12 (all grades); Ponderay, 20 (grades 1-5).

FARMERS INTERESTED IN FAIR

Selle ranchers H.B. Wilkinson and Fred Foster, in the city Tuesday, stated that the ranchers in their vicinity were taking a great deal of interest in the coming county fair. They say there will be a creditable showing of produce from their locality.

NEWS FROM BUNGALOW

An epidemic of grippe seems prevalent in Bungalow, several being sick last week.

The Bungalow Needlecraft society, composed of little misses, met at the Eller home Thursday.
