Wampus Cats come up short against Jags, Murekatete

| January 11, 2018 12:00 AM

CLARK FORK — Junior 6-foot-4 post Bella Murekatete had a triple double with 19 points, 16 rebounds and 13 assists for the Jaguars in a 61-34 North Star League win over the Wampus Cats on Tuesday night at Clark Fork High School.

Josie Scribner had 16 points and Rachel Schroeder had a game-high 20 points for Genesis Prep (6-6, 4-0 NSL), which had a pair of twin towers that proved tough to stop.

Brooke Stevens scored 21 points for Clark Fork (3-8, 0-3) in defeat, as the Cats lost to the Jaguars by the same exact score in back-to-back games. Ellie Kiebert and Kaylee Banks each scored seven, while Lily Simko pulled down six rebounds, Tessa Sutton five and Sara Hathaway four.

In the previous loss, Clark Fork outscored the Jaguars by two points in the second and third quarter, with head coach Jordan Adams sharing some of the blame for the loss.

“In the first quarter we started slow and in the fourth quarter, my girls got a little bit winded,” said Adams, calling the Jags simply a tough team. “That might have been a coaching issue. I probably could have been swapping them out more frequently, I could tell their legs were dying.”

The second time around, the Cats again fared well in the middle two quarters, showing the ability to play with the Jags in stretches. Adams praised the play of Hathaway, whose speed was a factor in her first start of the season.

“I started her for her defense and she flat killed it,” described Adams. “She had a number of steals and created a lot of turnovers.”
