Gary Lee Fredericks, 80

Gary Lee Fredericks, 80, passed away quietly on Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018, at Valley Vista in Sandpoint, Idaho.

A memorial to honor Gary’s life and to spread his ashes will be held this summer.

Gary was born on March 31, 1937, in Sandpoint to Marion and Nica Fredericks. He graduated from Sandpoint High School in 1955, where he enjoyed playing football, basketball, baseball, and running track.

In 1955, Gary joined the United States Navy to serve his country.

He married Mary Dowling on Aug. 23, 1959, in Clark Fork, Idaho. The couple lived in Cardiff by the Sea, Calif., raising their four children, and where Gary worked for Standard Oil Company. In 1974, the family moved back to the area on Hope Peninsula, where Gary worked as a beer truck driver, owned and operated Murphy’s Lounge in Hope, and was a Bonner County school bus driver.

Inspired by the love of sports, Gary coached his daughter’s basketball team at Hope Elemen-tary, and later coached women’s softball. He also enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, boating, archery and riding motorcycles.

Gary is survived by his wife, Mary Fredericks of Sagle; three sons, Daron and wife Debi Fredericks of Spokane, Wash., Dane and wife, Selah Fredericks of Spokane Valley, Wash., and Derek Fredericks of Post Falls, Idaho; a daughter, Deven and husband David Townsend of Cocolalla, Idaho; and six grandchildren and three great-granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Mason Townsend; a brother, Terry Fredericks; and a sister, Mary McKnight.
