Jan. 21, 1968 — ARMY MAN PROMOTED

Rauno A. Raiha, 23, son of Mr. and Mrs. Antti Raiha, Rte. 1, Sandpoint, was promoted to Army specialist five on Dec. 28 at Ft. Leavenworth, Kans., while serving as a clerk in the medical company of Munson Army Hospital at the fort.

CARLEEN ROBERSON JOBIE OF YEAR

Bethel No. 9, of the international Order of Job’s Daughters, met Tuesday at the Masonic Temple. Carleen Roberson was the recipient of the “Jobie of the Year” doll which was presented to her recently by Mrs. Spealman. This award is given to the girl who does not hold office but puts forth the most effort during the year to assist in the activities of the bethel.

NEW T-BAR READY

Schweitzer Basin ski area’s new T-Bar No. 3 is expected to be in operation this weekend. It will open an area on the north side of the bowl which skiers will find very exciting, said Manager Sam Wormington. Access to this area will be via the double chair to the upper terminal, then skiing down the ridge line to the lower terminal of the new T-Bar, then riding it to the top of the north peak. Distance from the north peak down to the lodge is about 4300 feet.

POLICE BLOTTER

J.A. Naccarato, principal of Washington School, reported that seven windows were broken out of the school, apparently by a high power air rifle.

Jan. 21, 1918 — CITY BREVITIES

“Dad” Twiss, armed with three honorable discharges from the United States army, went down to Spokane to offer his services to Uncle Sam. The recruiting officer turned him down under the age limit. Dad pointed out that generals are about his age and said he ought to be able to be general of an awkward squad. Dad’s fighting spirit is up and he says he’ll break into the service somewhere yet.

ASTOUNDING REPORT FOR SANDPOINT

The wife of a merchant had stomach trouble so bad she could eat nothing but toast, fruit and hot water. Everything else would ferment. One spoon of buckthorn bark, glycerine, etc. mixed in Adler-i-ka benefited her instantly. TEACHERS’ SALARIES ARE EXEMPT

School teachers are not subject to tax on their salaries as teachers, but are allowed that amount as exempt, and teachers are also allowed an exemption of $1000 outside the salary, if single, and $2000 if married.
