CLARK FORK — Brooke Stevens scored 21 points, and Kaylee Banks nabbed nine steals to set a defensive tone, leading the Wampus Cats past the Knights 50-47 in North Star League girls basketball Tuesday night at Clark Fork High School.

The Wampus Cats (6-8, 3-3 NSL) finally broke through for the win first year coach Jordan Adams has been waiting for.

“They played well together. I’ve seen what there potential is. They brought it to the court tonight,” said Adams. “I smiled the whole way home. They played as a team, and played smart.”

Ellie Kiebert added 12 points, Ali Sutton seven and Lily Simko pulled down nine rebounds for the Cats, who trailed heading into the fourth quarter before pulling out the big league win.

“Banks proved herself on the court,” said Adams of her freshman. “I could care less if she’s a scorer, the fact she can played defense like that and had one turnover the entire game, it was phenomenal basketball to watch.”

Tara Allen poured in a game-high 23 points in defeat for the Knights (9-9, 5-2 NSL), who had chances to win it in the final minutes.
