Jon Dennis Dawson, 58

| January 24, 2018 12:00 AM

Jon Dennis Dawson, 58, (fondly called Scooter by family and friends) passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2017 at the Schneidmiller Hospice House in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

A celebration on Jon’s life will be held at a later date.

Jon was born on Jan. 18, 1959, in Atwood, Kan., one of five children. During his youth he lived in various states with his family as his father was a geologist who did seismographic testing for oil companies.

Jon was preceded in death by both of his parents, John and Deane. Following their death he moved to Sandpoint, Idaho, to live with his brother, Michael and his wife Deb until he graduated from Sandpoint High School. Jon went on to receive his certification as a diesel mechanic and then worked for Litehouse Dressing as a mechanic before starting his own mechanic business.

Jon wasn’t one to sit around much. He made various stops each day to lend a helping hand to his aging aunts and to do odd jobs for his sisters. Always on the go, his nickname Scooter was perfect from day one.

Before developing diabetes and enduring several surgeries and dialysis, Jon enjoyed golfing in the summer and snowmobiling in the winter. He was known for his quick wit and humor which his friends and family found endearing.

Jon is survived by his siblings, Diana Dawson, Michael Dawson (Debra Kay), Debra Ann Dawson, Meaux and Pamela Dawson Carhart (Dave); and his nieces and nephews, Melissa and Jesse Dawson, and Mathew, Andrew, Kyle, and Jarrod Meaux.

The family extends its appreciation to the Lakeview Funeral Home for arrangements and many thanks to the staff at the Schneidmiller Hospice House in Coeur d’Alene for their outstanding and compassionate care at the end of Jon’s life. Please consider donations to The Hospice of North Idaho in their behalf.
