Elizabeth Harriet “Betty” Becher passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2018 in Sandpoint, Idaho. A private family memorial will be held at a later date. Interment will take place in the Greenlawn Memorial Park in Akron, Ohio.

Betty was born on May 27, 1920, in Akron to Robert and Bessie King. She graduated from Coventry High School in Akron in 1938 and married Duane Becher on May 20, 1940. She worked at the Ohio Division of Wildlife and Babcock & Wilcox Con-struction Company before moving to Idaho in 1983.

In Sand-point, she became the first employee of the Coldwater Creek Company. She worked part time when the owners were out of town, answering their home phone and typing orders. She stayed with the company as it grew, and the legend of Betty, the first-ever Coldwater employee, was widespread in their facilities for many years. She was also active in the GFWC Sandpoint Civic Club, and the Bonner General Hospital Auxiliary.

She is survived by her children, Nancy and Bill Miller of Sandpoint, Rene and Brian Horst of Michigan, and Betsy and Ray Miller of Sandpoint; grandchildren, Steve Miller, Chris Horst, Eric and Joy Horst, Ann Miller, and Meridith and Bob Karppinen; great-grandchildren, Kayla Horst, Alex Horst, Eleanor Karppinen; and Walter Karppinen; and great-great-grandchildren, Brycen and Willow.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Duane; her brother, Julius “Bus” King; and her granddaughter, Jennifer Miller.
