Davis earns POST supervisor certification

PRIEST RIVER — Priest River Police Sgt. Chris Davis recently earned his supervisor certification through the Idaho Peace Officer Standards and Training.

PRPD Chief Drew McLain presented Davis with the certificate during Monday’s City Council meeting, along with a letter from POST that read, “Please allow us to extend our congratulations for qualifying for the supervisor peace officer certificate. This certificate is offered for a job that can be classified as the most important and most important in an agency — the person in the middle between the top management and the line.

“We here at POST realize the responsibility and commitment it takes to become a good supervisor and we wish you continued success in your upward advancement.”

Davis joined the Priest River Police Department in July 2006, after serving as a reserve police officer for the city of Wilder and, later, a fully certified police officer in Spirit Lake. He has received training and certifications to be the department’s armorer and breath-testing specialist. He and his canine partner, Bella, are a POST-certified drug detection canine team.

During the school year, Davis serves as the school resource officer for West Bonner County School District. Since becoming an SRO, Davis has completed Crisis Intervention Team Training, Idaho POST School Resource Officer Basic Training, School Safety Officer Training, and the NRA National School Shield Program. Davis has completed over 2,000 hours of law enforcement, canine, and SRO-related training.

In October 2018, McLain presented Davis with an award from the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association as well. Davis completed executive, supervisor and management training through FBI-LEEDA.

“It is a lot of hard work and he is a very dedicated supervisor for the city of Priest River,” McLain said during the October meeting, adding on Monday that, “He is sometimes the glue to my sanity.”
