Aug. 13, 1969 – PLANKS FOR CITY DOCK

Lumber has arrived at the old city dock for constructing a walkway, according to Councilman Bob Kalb, who has worked hard to make the dock safer for youngsters and senior citizens fishing from the old structure.

ANGELS TAKE PONY LEAGUE

One of the best Pony League teams in years, the Angels, coached by Garland Newton and Howard Faux, had little difficulty taking the Pony league crown. Angel players were Brad Linsday, Dan Staglund, Tom Jones, Russ Faux, Rod Newton, Mike Kluver, Jim Carlson, Daryl David, John Andrews, Tom Johnson and Mike Williams.

DR. HAYDEN IN HOSPITAL

Dr. W.C. Hayden, Sandpoint physician, underwent major surgery in Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane Monday. Mrs. Hayden reported Wednesday he is getting along well and expects to be home in a week or 10 days.

METHODIST HIKERS IN SELKIRKS

Thirteen hikers left Sandpoint Monday to walk some of the Selkirk crest country the rest of the week. Those taking part are Ross Hall, Diane Mahler, David Wilson and Dean Messmore, Sandpoint; Rev. Fred Rarden, Phil Klein and Brian Ruthruff, Snohomish, Wash.; Pam Bushnell, Longview, Wash; Harold and Tom Walker, Clark Fork; Bob Voris, Simi, Calif.; Bob Schaff, San Diego, Calif. and Roland Stout, Lacrosse, Wash.

Aug. 13, 1919 – AFTER ROAD SCORCHERS

Chief of Police Ernest Kitchen is making good on his warning to auto speed merchants, past, present and embryonic, issued a short time ago. After his warning, motor drivers allowed the pavements to cool, but as no arrests followed, they began to press their toes on the foot-throttle again and pedestrians once more were in grave danger of taking pneumonia from the breezes left by the speed kings. Then, as the chief followed the ash-end of a cigar across the street by hanging onto the other end with his teeth, a car whisked by at such a speed that the ashes blew in his ear. He got the auto’s number, looked it up and made the arrest.

TO REGULATE LAKE’S WATER FLOW

An engineer engaged by the Columbia Basin Survey commission met with local engineers and laymen on problematical conditions in north Idaho which will be subsequent to the successful culmination of plans for taking Montana and Idaho water into the Big Bend country of Washington for irrigation, one of the biggest reclamation efforts ever to be made in the U.S. The commission’s plans call for a regulating dam at Albeni falls at Newport and one at the outlet of Flathead lake in Montana.
