| August 16, 2019 1:00 AM

Gardenia Center’s Sunday Service will host Buddhist nuns from Sravasti Abbey at a Sunday presentation. On Aug. 18, author, teacher, and Sravasti Abbey founder Venerable Thubten Chodron is speaking. The service will begin at 10 a.m.

The Gardenia Center is a welcoming, non-denominational spiritual community located at 400 Church St. in Sandpoint.

Venerable Thubten Chodron ordained in 1977 and also teaches internationally. She is especially known for her humorous, down-to-earth style. A prolific author and editor, she has published over 40 books, three co-authored with one of her principal teachers, His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

Buddhism emphasizes a path of nonviolence, ethical conduct, and compassion. In their Sunday talks, both Ven. Sangye Khadro and Ven. Thubten Chodron will offer practical methods that people of any spiritual tradition can use to develop kindness, happiness, and peace of mind.

Sravasti Abbey is a monastery in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition where Buddhist monks and nuns train to develop love, compassion, and wisdom and to share Buddha’s teachings. The monastery offers an array of programs from one-day events to longer meditation retreats, and lay guests are welcomed. Find more information about Sravasti Abbey at sravastiabbey.org.
