Governor picks forest commission members

Idaho Gov. Brad Little has appointed David Gabrielsen of Cataldo and reappointed Jesse Short of Lewiston to serve on the Idaho Forest Products Commission.

David Gabrielsen is the Idaho regional manager for Hancock Forest Management in Coeur d’Alene. Gabrielsen oversees the management of operations on 125,000 acres in the six northern most Idaho counties. Gabrielsen holds a bachelor’s degree in forest resource management from the University of Idaho and is a second generation forester with 30 years of on-the ground forestry experience. Hancock Forest Management is part of Hancock Timber Resource Group, a timber investment management organization that manages nearly 5.6 million acres of timberland globally for large private investors such as pension funds.

Jesse Short is the regional manager of Idaho Forest Group, one of America’s largest lumber producers with a capacity of well over 1 billion board feet per year and markets around the globe. Short oversees the management and operation of IFG sawmills in Lewiston, Grangeville and St. Regis, Montana. He has extensive knowledge is manufacturing and has been engage in various aspects of the forest products industry for 20 years. Short holds an associate degree in applied science and residential construction from delta College in Michigan.

Other IFPC Members include Jack Buell of Jack Buell Trucking in St. Maries, Trevor Stone of Potlatch-Deltic in Lewiston and Mark Mahon of Tom Mahon Logging in Council. Bonner County resident Mike Boeck, resource manager for Tri-Pro Forest Products, is rotating off the commission after serving seven terms.

“Our board reflects the diverse segments of Idaho’s forest products sector,” said Betty Munis, IFPC director. “We will surly benefit from these appointments and greatly appreciate the tremendous commitment Mike Boeck made to IFPC.

IFPC was created in 1992 by the Idaho Legislature to provide information and education about Idaho’s forests and the forest products industry.
