PRIEST RIVER — Clark Fork volleyball played Priest River close throughout the entire game, but the Wampus Cats fell short in the fifth set for a 25-20, 22-25, 25-22, 17-25, 12-15 season-opening defeat.

“I felt like we played really well for our first match of the season and one of the first times this group of girls have played together,” First-year Clark Fork head coach Michelle Valliere wrote in an email. “One of our issues was just lack of playing time together. Despite this they all dug in and worked hard and communicated with each other.”

Senior Ellie Kiebert led the team with 13 kills, two aces and had the second-highest number of digs on the night with 28. Her fellow senior captain Aleehia Valliere led the team with 35 digs and held her own in the back row.

“[Aleehia] was passing everything up really well in the first three matches and did well in the last two also,” Michelle Valliere said.

Clark Fork will host Bonners Ferry next Thursday, Sept. 5.
