POAC announces First Friday art exhibits on Sept. 6

| August 30, 2019 1:00 AM

There’s a first time for everything, and Pend Oreille Arts Council thinks it’s a great time to anchor art exhibits and artists’ receptions on the first Friday of every month. Starting on September 6 with exhibits at both the Power House, 120 Lake St., and the POAC Gallery, 110 Main St., opening meet and greets will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

This upcoming first First Friday will focus on an en plein air exhibit titled Call of the Wild. Eight artists will be showcasing their work. En plein air is a French term used to describe a style and school of painting that became popular in the 1800s when paint was first packaged in tubes thereby allowing artists the ability to leave the confines of the studio.

“Themed Call of the Wild this exhibit explores the irresistible urge to go outside, breathe the fresh air, and …paint!” POAC Executive Director Hannah Combs said. “This artwork created outdoors depicts everything from the overgrown Sandpoint alley to the deepest wilderness.”

At the POAC Gallery, 12 local artists will be featured with their works in a variety of medium with the theme of Life in Motion.

“Life in motion asks the question, when life flies by too fast and you’re overwhelmed by the busyness of the day-to-day, how do you process your ‘life in motion?’ Combs said. “Come and explore interpretations of these talented artists.”

First Friday receptions will continue through the spring of next year. The public is invited to join artists, POAC’s board members and their friends and neighbors for a bit of refreshment and impressive art exhibits.

POAC board and staff look forward to seeing you this Friday, September 6 at both the Power House and the POAC Gallery, but if we miss you, the Call of the Wild exhibit is on display until October 25. Life in Motion will continue through November 27.
