College update: Nan Kiebert, other local athletes shine during the fall collegiate sports season

With the collegiate fall sports season coming to an end, it’s time to look at how some local athletes fared in their sports over the past few months.

Nan Kiebert, Eastern Oregon women’s soccer — In her final season with the Mountaineers, Kiebert helped the team make history as EOU made it to the quarterfinals of the NAIA Championships before falling to Marian University 1-0 last Wednesday. Kiebert, a 2016 SHS grad and two-time state champ with the Bulldogs, tallied 12 goals and seven assists in 22 games this season for the Mountaineers (16-3-4). During her career at EOU, Kiebert scored 19 goals and recorded 12 assists.

Riley Walkington, Eastern Washington women’s soccer — Walkington, a 2019 Sandpoint grad, was apart of an Eagles team that made it all the way to the Big Sky championship and lost to Northern Colorado 1-0 on Nov. 10. The freshman started in 15 of the Eagles 21 games and tallied one goal and one assist as EWU finished with a 11-8-2 record. She earned Big Sky Player of the Week honors after assisting on the sole goal against Nevada in her first collegiate game and scoring a goal in a 5-2 loss to Boise State on Aug. 25.

Jezza Hutto, Lewis and Clark College women’s soccer — The freshman defender recorded one goal and fired five shots on goal in 17 games for the Pioneers (9-8-3) this season. Hutto, a 2019 Bulldog grad, started in 16 of the team’s games this season.

Grace Hicks, Point Loma Nazarene University volleyball — The 2019 grad had a huge impact on the Sea Lions in her first season on the squad. In 30 matches and 98 sets played, Hicks had 189 kills, 65 digs, 81 total blocks and 28 aces to help propel Point Loma to a 19-11 record this season.

Alex Stockton, Santa Barbara City College football — In his freshman season, Stockton caught seven passes for 52 yards in 10 games for the Vaqueros (3-7) this year.

Marina Breuner, Clark College volleyball — In 25 matches this season, the 2019 Bulldog grad racked up 89 kills, 185 digs, 67 total blocks and 22 aces to help propel the Penguins to a 13-21 record.

Tyler Moore, Christian Dressel, Julian Reichold, Mac Stultz (North Idaho men’s soccer) — The 2019 SHS grads guided the Cardinals to a 5-8-4 mark this year.

Robbie Anselmo, Lewis-Clark Valley football — The 2019 Priest River grad appeared in all eight of the Loggers game this season, mostly on the defensive side of the ball. He recorded 24 total tackles and caught 10 passes for 64 yards on offense.

Ciera Bailey, Lewis-Clark State College cross country — The sophomore ran a career best 5K time this season at the Master’s Invitational with a time of 19:50 to place 112th. She also took 24th at the Frontier Conference Championships and helped the Warriors capture 18th at the NAIA Cross Country National Championships.

Jenna Matier, North Idaho women’s soccer — The freshman defender contributed to a NIC team that finished with a 8-6-5 record in 2019.

Garrett Pierce, College of the Ozarks cross country — The 2018 Sandpoint grad had an impressive season for the Bobcats, taking second at the AII conference championship, 27th at the NCCAA National Championships and 234th at the NAIA National Cross Country Championships.

Laney Search, George Fox women’s volleyball — Search, a 2017 SHS grad, tallied 70 kills, 21 aces and 186 digs in 24 matches for the Bruins in 2019.

Carlos Collado III, Kyle Perry (Idaho football) — The 2017 Sandpoint grads were apart of a Vandals team that finished the season with a 5-7 record. Perry appeared in nine games for UI, tallying 22 total tackles and one sack this year.

Paul Sundquist, Montana Tech football — The redshirt junior had 20 total tackles and a fumble recovery in seven games for the Diggers.

Robbie Johnson, College of Idaho football — Johnson, a 2018 grad, appeared in one game for the Yotes, recording four tackles in the team’s season opening win over Eastern Oregon on Aug. 31.

Niemela, Casey receive Division I offers

Sandpoint offensive lineman Brandon Casey received an offer from Oregon State University last week while wide receiver Christian Niemela was offered his first Division I scholarship from Idaho State University.

Niemela also has offers from Montana Tech, Linfield College, Whitworth, University of Puget Sound and Pacific University.

According to Casey’s Twitter, he is already committed to Montana to continue playing football.
