Sandpoint to launch online permitting

SANDPOINT — Efficiency, ease of use, and 24/7 access are among the advantages offered by the city’s new online permitting and licensing program to be launched on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2020.

Contractors and community members will be able to use their smartphones or computers to easily apply for a variety of permits including roofing, remodeling, and mechanical, business licenses, pet licenses and many others.

“Online permitting means busy contractors and community members can apply for city permits and licenses any time of day or night without having to make a trip to City Hall,” said Mayor Shelby Rognstad. “They will be able to pay their permit fees online and check the status of the permit once it is submitted. It frees up their time to accomplish other important tasks that can’t be done outside regular business hours.”

Contractors are encouraged to go online now to sandpointidaho.gov/GoDigital and register for a contractor account and obtain a PIN number, which will be required to apply online permits.

Easy instructions for establishing an account are readily available on the website. There is no charge to set up an account, and it only takes about five to ten minutes to complete the process, city officials said in the release. Residential permit applicants will not need an account to apply for permits.

The move to online digital processing will roll out a few types of permits at a time, starting with mechanical permits and expanding to include almost all types of City-provided permitting and licensing.

“It’s all part of our continuing efforts to ensure customer service that is easy to access, user friendly, efficient, and cost-effective,” City Administrator Jennifer Stapleton said.
