Bulldogs finish 2-2 during duals at Best of the West

PASCO, Wash. — Sandpoint wrestling competed in four duals Friday at the Best of the West Tournament and went 2-2.

In a dual with White River (Wash.), Sandpoint fell 55-23 to the Hornets.

The Bulldogs only won four of the 14 matches, claiming one by forfeit, one by technical fall and two by pin.

Trevan Adam (138) defeated his opponent by technical fall to give Sandpoint its first points of the match while Jake Suhr (195) and Kayelin Otterson (106) each claimed victories by pin.

The Bulldogs emerged victorious in a battle with Newberg (Ore.) 2, earning a 49-30 win.

Sandpoint won six matches by forfeit while Malachi Fleck (145), Isaiah Caralis (160) and Tanner Dickson (113) all secured pins.

Sandpoint struggled in a matchup with Southridge (Wash.), losing 48-19.

The Bulldogs dropped seven matches by pin. Dickson earned a 6-1 win over his opponent and Korder Tonge accepted a forfeit at 220 pounds.

Fleck took a 11-7 victory over Southridge’s Ethan Sepulveda, Nelson claimed his match by majority decision and Caralis squeaked out a 7-5 win.

Sandpoint notched their second dual win of the day over Mount Si (Wash.) 48-30.

The team earned eight match wins, claiming four by forfeit and four by pin.

Nelson, Caralis, Suhr and Jake Ryan (132) each took victories by pin.

Prior to this tournament, Suhr had wrestled at 220 pounds this year but head coach Jake Stark said the senior will be competing at 195 for the rest of the season.

The Bulldogs will compete in the individual portion of the Best of the West Tournament today in Pasco.
