No one can seem to slow down double-double machine Karah Fink

At this point, opponents might as well just give Karah Fink a double-double before she even steps on the court because we all know she is getting one.

The senior Priest River post has made the feat seem like a walk in the park in the first half of this season.

The only thing that has really slowed her down this season was sickness, which limited her heavily in the team’s final game before the Christmas break. But even starting the game on the bench at Clark Fork on Dec. 12 due to illness didn’t stop her from dropping 25 points on the Lady Cats.

Fink is a force when she’s on the court and without her production this season, it would be hard to imagine the Spartans having much success.

Fink’s passion for the sport started in second grade. Both her older sisters played the sport so basketball came natural to Fink and she went to every game her sibling’s had. Her dad, Bret, even coached her growing up.

Fink plays other sports as well, including soccer and softball, but none have given her the same satisfaction. Basketball is in her blood and her reason for loving it is pretty simple.

“I’ve played it for so long and I’m good at it,” Fink said.

And the senior puts the time in to make her sure her game is at its best. So if there’s an open gym at Priest River High or a basketball camp nearby, you’ll most likely find Fink there working and grinding as she tries to model her game after PRLHS math teacher Steffie Pavey, who was a league MVP caliber player at Priest River just seven years ago.

Head coach Gary Stewart has come to expect 15 points and 15 rebounds from Fink nightly which the post admits can be stressful at times.

“I know I have to step it up every game,” Fink said, “and do my best for all of them so they can stay pumped up and if I get down that definitely makes them get down and not want to try as hard.”

But the Spartans showed in a matchup with Wallace on Dec. 14, they can be successful without Fink and she believes that gave the team confidence and will help them in the second half of the season.

All players have flaws in their game and for Fink, she wants to focus on not pressuring herself to be perfect every game.

“For me it would be don’t quit and get mad because I definitely have this thing where if I miss a shot I get really mad and that’s got to be controlled,” she said.
