From the magic of ‘Cats’ to a fundraiser that will help the real four-legged versions (and their dog friends, too), this week’s entertainment options are as varied as they are fun.
We start off with more showings of “Cats,” a most-expected adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s beloved musical and T.S. Eliot’s classic book, “Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats.” On Saturday, it’s the second annual fundraise to pay tribute to Erik Bruhjell to benefit one of his favorite causes, the Panhandle Animal Shelter.

‘Winterland’ and ‘Fire on the Mountain’

The ski season has begun, and what better way to get your stoke on than a shredding film, or two?
Starting with “Fire on the Mountain”, a short movie set to the sounds of The Grateful Dead! Narrated by Hall of Fame basketball player and television sportscaster Bill Walton “Fire on the Mountain” features some of action sports’ most legendary athletes. Captured over the course of the winter by cinematographer Tyler Hamlet the visual journey features never seen before visual effects within nature and original artwork by Benchetler and Skye Walker.
“Winterland” is a celebration of ski and snowboard culture. Today’s mountain athletes can only stand as tall as those who came before, the pirates of the past who followed their own path and passion.

Panhandle Animal Shelter’s Erik Bruhjell Fundraiser
Venue: Evans Brothers Coffee, 524 Church
Time: 7 a.m.-5 p.m.
A portion of sales from all three Evans Brothers cafes — Sandpoint, Coeur d’Alene and Spokane — and online shop will be donated to the shelter.
To commemorate the event, Randy Evans designed a special EB-style ball cap branded with Erik Bruhjell’s name for this year’s fundraiser. The hats will be available at all three cafes and in the online shop. The cafes are open 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and the online shop will continue to collect proceeds and offer hats until midnight.

Come one come all to bring in 2020 with the Angels Over Sandpoint and Collectively, a jazz/funk, psychedelic soul band originally formed in Shanghai, China, now based in San Francisco Bay area. A high energy, genre blending, ensemble of world-class musicians, with a focus on exploration through collective improvisation. Upbeat grooves, soulful guitar work, and tight arrangements are things to expect from a Collectivity show, drawing on influences from jazz/funk, gospel, and psychedelic soul.
