Edward 'Lyle' Williams, 84

Edward “Lyle” Williams, 84, of Sandpoint, Idaho passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2019, at his home surrounded by family.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 6, 2019, at Pack River Cemetery in Sandpoint, Idaho, with a potluck immediately following at Lyle’s home, 995 Jacobson Road.

A viewing for family and friends viewing will be held on Friday July 5,from 1-3 p.m. at Coffelt Funeral Services in Sandpoint.

Lyle was born on November 18, 1934, at his parents’ home in Kootenai, Idaho. He enjoyed fishing and camping with his parents, as well as fowl hunting with his dad. He attended Kootenai Elementary and graduated from Sandpoint High School in 1953. He worked for the forest service during his younger years, and retired from the Colburn Lumber Mill many years later.

He married Patricia Anne Jenkins after graduating high school and together they had five children, Cheryl, Kathy, Theresa, Edward, and Connie. The two divorced and Lyle later married Retta Merkley on January 19, 1972, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. The two enjoyed gardening and spending time together on the family farm off Jacobson Road.

Lyle is survived by a brother, David Williams; his children, Cheryl Danson of Post Falls, Idaho, Kathy (Dale) Cooper of Sisters, Oregon, Theresa Gunter of Sandpoint, Edward Williams of Sandpoint, and Connie Williams of Moscow, Idaho; three stepchildren, Boyd Merkley of Post Falls, Idaho, Barbara (Steve) Hartman of St. Maries, Idaho, and Chris Merkley of Sandpoint; as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Helen Williams (Peterson); his spouse, Retta May Williams; and his siblings, Frederick, Helen, and Jerry.
