Sandpoint girls golf sets four personal bests in Inland Empire PGA Juniors Pro-Am play

SPOKANE ­— Hours after the Sandpoint girls golf team took third at the 4A State Golf Championships, head coach Michael Deprez said his team was “hungry for the 2020 season.”

If the four personal bests at the 2019 IEPGA Pro-Juniors at Esmeralda are any indicative of how hungry the team is to improve, then the Bulldogs have shown that hunger and then some.

The Bulldogs placed three individuals at Esmeralda on July 1: CeCe Deprez had the second-lowest gross score, while Hattie Larson and Aly Lish placed first and third in net score, respectively.

“I’m really proud of all the girls,” Deprez said. “They just flat-out played great.”

The Bulldogs truly improved across the board. No player walked away from the course without doing something great, which bodes well for an all-too-early look at the 2020 team.

Camille Neuder shot a 90 gross score, which was also a lifetime personal best; Michael Deprez said the 90 felt like an 86 to her. Annaby Kanning finished with a 104, yet Deprez lauded her hitting throughout the afternoon. And the aforementioned Lish broke 100 for the first time, giving Sandpoint a roster that boasts five players who can shoot under 100.

Esmeralda also gave the players an opportunity to team up with PGA professionals for a team competition. Michael Deprez’s team of Lish and Neuder tied for first with a 117, while Cece Deprez, Kanning and PGA professional Darin Vaughan placed sixth (out of 29 teams) with a 124.
