Regional veterans stand down is set

NEWPORT — A regional veterans stand down will be held in town later this month.

The Regional Veterans Stand Down will be held from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. at Newport High School, 1400 Fifth St., Newport.

The free event is open to all U.S. veterans from anywhere. More than 40 organizations will have tables at the stand down, including federal, state, county officials.

In addition to clothing and shoe, toiletries and household items will be available. Also, there will be health checkups, disability claim assistance, VA burial information for both Idaho and Washington, SSVF housing assistance, substance abuse treatment and other support programs information, social services support information, veterans service and employment information for both Idaho and Washington, and more.

Veterans support organization will also be on hand at the stand down to talk to veterans.

Veterans need to bring their military ID, DD 214, or VA ID for admission. Veterans’ family members are also welcome to attend, but some services will be available only to veterans.

Lunch will be provided to attendees, volunteers and service providers.
