It's our fault for how today's youth are behaving

| July 16, 2019 1:00 AM

I’ve been thinking (yup, really). I hear people complain about the disrespect of today’s youth. Well, quite frankly, it’s our fault.

When we were young, we opened doors for women, we said please and thank you, we appreciated the positive in life, and didn’t rub faces in the negative. We were taught world and U.S. history, and how it repeats. We were taught absolute power corrupts absolutely, and the importance of making tough decisions.

But today we seem to put entertainers on pedestals for doing just the opposite, and promote them as role models. They get honored for demeaning our country in front of the entire world. And those standing up and showing respect seem to be hidden from view. Check out Kelly O’Hara, a U.S. soccer player, or check out Warrick Dunn. These are the type of people that should be shown in the news. And there are many, many others.

Maybe the youth are merely a reflection of what we have failed to teach them. (I am talking in generalities, I have met some very impressive young people.)
