July 21, 1969 — JAMBOREE CLOSES

Jamboree Boy Scouts were homeward bound with the words of Col. Frank Borman and Lady Baden-Powell ringing in their ears.

Borman, who circled the moon in December, brought with him President Richard M. Nixon’s message for best wishes and God speed.

Lady Baden-Powell (widow of the founder of the Boy Scout movement) told Scouts, “What a week in history! Men walked on the moon while you were here.” She reminded them they were part of a team, each with his own place. “The team will win for good, for God. Good luck, go to it and God be with you,” she concluded.

THURLOW TO RUN UNION STATION

Rod Thurlow, Sandpoint, has leased the new Union 76 service station on Fifth at Poplar and plans a grand opening in about three weeks.

Thurlow was formerly with Vic and Rod’s Tire Shop and then with Jack’s OK Tire Store before accepting the new gas station managership.

The new station is finished with rockwork, and has two pump islands to serve customers. There are planters along the sidewalks and the existing trees on Poplar were preserved to achieve an attractive station.
