Students graduate from Whitworth

SPOKANE — A Sandpoint student is among those students who have been awarded a degree from Whitworth University.

Linda Larson Spagon received a master of arts degree in marriage and family therapy.

Located in Spokane, Whitworth is a private liberal arts university affiliated with the Presbyterian church. The university, which has an enrollment of more than 3,000 students, offers more than 100 undergraduate and graduate degree programs.

Montana State awards diplomas

BOZEMAN – Students from Idaho were among the 1,537 Montana State University undergraduates who received diplomas during MSU’s 2019 spring commencement ceremonies held May 4 in Brick Breeden Fieldhouse.

From Bonner County, graduating were Jacob Sweezy, Sagle; Jared Cooper, Sandpoint, highest honors; Lillie Hawkins, Sandpoint, honors; Samuel Powell, Sandpoint; and Christian Cook, Sandpoint.

Sheila Stearns, the first woman to hold the position of commissioner of higher education in Montana, received an honorary doctorate in letters. Also during the ceremony, MSU President Waded Cruzado presented the President’s Medallion to Terry Payne of Missoula and the five siblings of the Scott family from Montana and northern Wyoming. The medallion is presented to those who have made significant contributions to the educational, cultural, economic, scientific and social advancement of MSU and the region.

To graduate with highest honors, undergraduate students must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.70. To qualify for graduation with honors, students must possess a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 to 3.69.

Alsager earns degree at GFU

NEWBERG, ORE. — Anna Alsager of Sagle was among more than 900 undergraduate, adult degree and graduate-level students who received diplomas from George Fox University this spring. Alsager earned a bachelor of arts in cinema and media communication.

All told, 499 students received bachelor’s degrees after completing study in one of George Fox’s 41 undergraduate bachelor’s degree majors. Another 381 students received a master’s degree or a doctorate after completing study in one of the university’s graduate programs or in its seminary, and 50 students received bachelor’s degrees through the school’s adult degree program.

George Fox offers bachelor’s degrees in more than 40 majors, degree-completion programs for working adults, six seminary degrees, and 13 master’s and doctoral degrees.
